The good news is it mostly doesn't matter. Experiment and use what works. All the different audio compression algorithms have unwanted side effects, but all work fairly well.

 If you have a recent version of Microsoft Windows, you already have Windows Media player installed on your computer and you can just click and go. If you have a 56K modem connection, use the 32 kbps (kilobits per second) link. If you have a fast connection (say, cable modem or DSL) use the higher bitrate files and you'll get much better sound.
